Taste of London festival (photo: Kent Wang)
I was taking photos of my food even before that was a ‘thing’ on social media.
Then, when Instagram came along, I found myself at home with a worldwide community of food fanatics who were into taking photos of beautiful, delicious dishes, too!
Some of the hashtags I currently use and follow have literally hundreds of millions of other users and followers. Three of the most popular are:
#foodie #foodgasm #foodporn
I mean, maybe these are slightly rude, but for a true foodie, nothing else can really beat a tasty meal, ha ha!
I always have my phone with me ready to snap and upload. I attend at least ONE major food festival every year, also!
Last year, I was in London. I’d booked one of the many London day rooms with Day Break Hotels, because I’d travelled in from Oxford and wanted to make a long day of it. A day room can give you a post-lunch nap opportunity, too, before you go out seeking dinner!
This is because I was attending the ‘Taste of London’ food festival, which featured the city’s top chefs, most dazzling restaurants, and some seriously tasty workshops and sampling sessions.
Some other festivals which I have attended, and highly recommend, are -
Pizzafest, Naples If you are going to eat pizza, then you should eat the best pizza! Pizza was born and - ha ha - bread - here. From margherita to marinara, all pizza types and toppings are available, as well as some amazing ice-cream!

Dumpling Festival, Hong Kong I saw there was a cheap flight to Hong Kong, and that it coincided with this most unusual dumpling festival. I am a massive fan of Chinese dim sum and Japanese gyoza (as well as Polish pierogi, of course!) so a friend and I flew over and got to attend this. Hashtag: dumplings. Hashtag: fullofdumplings!!!
Castagnades Chestnut Festival, France France is only a short trip considering the world’s girth! I found out about this festival and was keen to go as I’m a big fan of chestnuts, especially in French cooking. We went, and we - conkered? - so to speak. And there were plenty of fine Instagram photos from this one, too.
Food festivals may be large or local, focus on international food or regional cuisine; but where there is food, there are opportunities for photos! As well as free tasting, and much deliciousness, of course.
